Homemade Dairy Free Ranch Dressing

Making Homemade Ranch Dressing and gettingΒ kids cooking in the kitchen

A study conducted in Alberta Canada in 2012 and published in The Journal of Public Health Nutrition showed that vegetable consumption was 10% higher for children who helped cook in the kitchen compared to those who did not, so that is one tip! Another way to get kids to eat more veggies is to create and use dips and dressings. In a phone survey conducted in 2008 by Hidden Valley Company, 67% of kids “preferred to eat their veggies in a salad with dressing” and 63% preferred to “dip raw veggies in dip.”Β

So, let’s put a healthy spin on everyone’s favorite – ranch dressing! No more store-bought ranch dressing, no more reading the labels of all those bottles filled with gross ingredients. Instead try this simple and also dairy-free (eczema friendly) recipe to make ranch whenever you need to!

Homemade Ranch Dressing

homemade ranch dressing mix

Ingredients:

  • 1 C dried parsley
  • 2 T dill weed
  • 1/2 C garlic powder
  • 1/2 C onion powder
  • 1/2 C sea salt
  • 1/2 C minced onion

Have the children who can read gather all the ingredients and have smaller kids measure them out into a jar.

Instructions:

  1. Mix all ingredients and store in a jar (it lasts for a couple of months and we eat ranch all the time).
  2. When you are ready to make fresh ranch dressing:
    • Combine 1 T of dry mix to 1/3 cup of coconut milk, 1/3 cup of soy milk (Dairy Free milk), and 1 T mayo.
    • I have added avocado as well at various times. Just enough that it’s not green.
