Holistic Approaches to Constipation

Pooping is the most basic human need and it needs to happen daily. If your child does not poop daily, please speak with your doctor.

Pooping is the way the body eliminates wastes and toxins, it has to be done daily.

Here are some Misconceptions:

  • nursed babies can poop once a week and it’s fine – people can poop once a week if that is how they have always pooped
  • kids will outgrow not pooping
  • it’s not a big deal

Here are some Root Causes for Constipation:

  • Leaky gut
  • Refined diet (white diet)
  • Antibiotic exposure
  • Uncontrolled Stress
  • Food Intolerance
  • Anti-Reflux Medication Exposure
  • Abdominal Surgery
  • Thyroid Disorder
  • Medications
  • Inactive Lifestyles

Here is what a white diet includes: milk, bread, snacks, bagels, waffles, cakes, ice cream, cheese, and pasta.

The first solution to constipation is diet change. You should eat fruits and veggies at every meal. The color of the rainbow with fruits/veggies provides essential minerals, vitamins, and fiber. Drink lots and lots of water daily. Decrease dairy in your diet and if that doesn’t work then eliminate it completely. If that doesn’t work then change the refined white bread to whole grain bread. Try to decrease all items in the white diet, and if that doesn’t work then eliminate it completely. You may want to try gluten free.

Once you change your diet, you can move to evacuation helpers.

Evacuation Helpers:

  • Magnesium Citrate
  • Vitamin C
  • Probiotics- My top 2 – VSL3 or Klaire Labs Complete
  • Digestive Enzymes
  • Juices as medicine- Apple, Pear, Grape, Prune
  • Juice Plus
  • Castor Oil Compresses

Here is the bottom line – Constipation is the first signal the body sends that things are amiss. Do not wait to take action. The longer you wait the higher the risk for -> eczema, asthma, allergies, anxiety, ADHD, etc. It all starts in the gut.
